Celcus Library is a historical library in the Ancient City of Ephesus. The Ancient City of Ephesus is located in Selçuk district of İzmir. Celcus Library is a library that was built during the Roman Empire and belongs to the Romans.
This summer I had the opportunity to visit the Ancient City of Ephesus. Frankly, it impressed me a lot. It was very impressive both with its history and with its works that have survived intact until today. Let’s briefly introduce the ancient city of Ephesus before Celsus.
Ephesus Ancient City
The ancient city of Ephesus, located in the Selçuk district of İzmir, is one of the most visited ancient cities in Turkey and the world. It welcomes over 2 million domestic and foreign visitors every year. Ephesus was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015.
The Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the world, is located in Ephesus. Celsus Library, which is the 3rd largest library of the ancient world, the Great Theatre, one of the largest theaters of the Ancient World, the Church of Mary, one of the first seven churches of the Christian world, and Yedi Evler are located in the ancient city of Ephesus.
Celsus Library
Celcus library is a library located in Selçuk district of İzmir. Being a part of the Ancient City of Ephesus and its historical structure, this place is one of the most frequently visited places by tourists and locals. The library has two floors and is thought to have housed some 14,000 books at the time.
The library, which impresses you with its architecture, is 21 meters wide and 17 meters high. The library is accessed via a nine-step staircase. There are written inscriptions and various sculptures on the outside and inside of the library.
